FRAME STYLES

A pair of laser safety glasses basically consists of two components: filters and frame. Even though the filter is the more important component (as it enables you to see safely) and determines the price, one should never underestimate the importance of the frame.

Many people tend to select laser safety eyewear especially for aesthetic aspects just like a pair of corrective glasses, but the frame is more important than that. The legal requirements demand that, (i) the frame has to withstand the same level of radiation as the filters themselves (stability against laser radiation), (ii) that the frame has to prevent the laser beam from reaching the eyes from the sides (side protection) and that (iii) the filters form an inseparable unit with the frame.

This is the reason why we never offer filters and frames separately. A "weak" frame can limit the achievable protection levels to a low level, even though the filters themselves could reach higher protection levels. After all, what use is an outstanding filter when the laser beam can reach the eyes through the frame from the sides or from above?

Therefore LASERVISION provides most frames in two versions: one is a simple frame for filters with lower protection levels and/or lasers with lower power; and the other is the same frame plus a metal layer (reinforcement) on the inside of the frame for high power filters and/or high power lasers. The difference is a higher level of protection.
